One of the most promising Dota 2 teams in Southeast Asia bid the esports scene farewell.
Adroit Esports — who won gold for the Philippines in the Southeast Asian Games — will be shutting down due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, the organization announced, Saturday.
“It is with a heavy heart that we share to the community that we have released our Dota 2 roster and all of our support staff as we cease all operations for Adroit Esports,” the team said in the statement.
The Cebu-based organization has released all of its players and staff effective immediately.
Adroit first rose to fame when they almost qualified for The International 2019, finishing third during stacked SEA qualifiers.
Adroit got their first taste of a Major event in the 2019-2020 Dota Pro Circuit season in the MDL Chengdu Major. There, they finished 13th-16th in the 16-team event.
Despite numerous achievements in the region, Adroit’s crowning jewel will always be the gold medal from the 30th Southeast Asian Games. The team composed of Marvin “Boomy” Rushton, Mc Nicholson “Mac” Villanueva, Jun “Bok” Kanehara, John “Natsumi-“ Vargas, and Bryle “cml” Alvizo wielded the upset axe on Thailand.
“We started Adroit small but with big goals for the future. A few championships but with honor, we raised the banner of SEA, PH, and Cebuano Dota. We once entered the competitive Valorant scene and it was filled with numerous championships. All things, big or small, come to an end. Sacrifices were made by everyone on the team to stay afloat but the pandemic situation has led us to the inevitable,” the statement continued.
Adroit also expressed their utmost gratitude to their former Valorant players dispenser, gicama, whoME, JessieVash, BORKUM, and Gibo. The organization was forced to let go of the roster last August. The five are now currently thriving under the care of BREN Esports.
