Black hoping Jackson plays in Game Five as Meralco needs bodies vs Pringle

SMART CLARK GIGA CITY — Meralco hopes that Trevis Jackson is all fine after getting hurt in Game Four of their 2020 PBA Philippine Cup best-of-five semifinal affair with Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, Wednesday.

The sophomore guard sprained his left ankle after accidentally stepping on Aaron Black’s foot while guarding Stanley Pringle at the end of the first quarter. He grimaced in pain as he sprawled on the floor.

Cameras, later on, showed Jackson sitting near the bench, with his left foot dipped into a bucket of ice. He did not return to the game, where he only saw action for four minutes and 48 seconds as a starter.

The Bolts still managed to gut out the 83-80 win to extend their season, but that doesn’t make the team less worried about the 25-year-old.

“He twisted his ankle,” said head coach Norman Black moments after the match at the SMART 5G-powered AUF Sports and Cultural Center.

“And on a scale of one to 10, he said it was about a five, so that seems to be pretty bad.”

Jackson may not be producing many numbers in this series, but he remains a valuable piece for Meralco. He’s among those whom Black uses to give Gin Kings star Stanley Pringle a hard time on offense.

That’s why the Grand Slam-winning mentor has his fingers crossed that the cager from California will be able to play in the do-or-die Game Five on Friday, where the Bolts aim to repeat and make it to the Finals.

“I hope he can because it gives us another body to throw out there against Stanley Pringle.”
