Illa Santos to miss Choco Mucho’s PVL campaign

Illa Santos-Ng will not achieve her dream of becoming a pro volleyball player this year.

The 34-year-old spiker will not be part of Choco Mucho for the 2021 Premier Volleyball League season.

“Hi guys, Ate Illa here. Sad ako na hindi ako makakasama this season,” she said in an Instagram video.

“But alam niyo ‘yan, full support ako sa inyo ngayong PVL 2021. Ate Illa will always be here for you always.”

Santos, who stands at 5-foot-4, returned to competitive volleyball back in August of 2019 following a decade-long hiatus.

With Choco Mucho, she was able to get her competitive juices back.

“A big thank you to my Choco Mucho Flying Titans family for helping me get back in the volleyball league,” her post read.

“For the past years, I’ve always dreamt of being back on the court and playing the sport that is really close to my heart, and you guys made it possible for me.”

Choco Mucho missed the Final Four boat after tallying a 6-10 slate during the 2019 Open Conference.

However, the UAAP Season 71 MVP shared that she would not be part of their campaign this year. The PVL is looking at a May start date.

Many had booked fantasy matches for Santos-Ng during the build-up for the season.

This includes of course the De La Salle legend facing the new generation of Lady Spikers in F2 Logistics. Another match-up was of course Santos-Ng rekindling her rivalry with Rachel Daquis, who is with Cignal.

Players like Jheck Dionela had also dreamt of sharing the taraflex with Santos-Ng.

Santos, though, did not say if she is retiring from the game.
