Margie Didal will be the 10th member of Team Pilipinas to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
World Skate made Didal’s entry to the Games official after she ranked 17th in the world in women’s street, Thursday morning (Manila time).
The 22-year-old accumulated 31,250 ranking points after competing in eight of nine events.
The Cebuana has been making history in the Asian region, winning the first-ever gold medal in skateboarding for both the Asian Games and the Southeast Asian Games.
A total of 20 athletes will compete in the event, headlined by a trio of Brazilians in Pamela Rosa, Rayssa Leal, and Leticia Bufoni; American troika of Alexis Sablone, Alana Smith, and Mariah Duran; and Japan’s Aori Nishimura, Momiji Nishiya, and Funa Nakayama.
This will be the first time skateboarding has been added to the Olympic program.
Didal joins weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz; boxing flyweight Carlo Paalam, middleweight Eumir Marcial, flyweight Irish Magno, featherweight Nesthy Petecio; gymnast Caloy Yulo; pole vaulter EJ Obiena; taekwondo finweight Karl Barbosa; and rower Cris Nievarez as Team Pilipinas’ contingent.
