Chery Tiggo slams Cignal, cruises to 2-0 in PVL

BACARRA, ILOCOS NORTE — Chery Tiggo sustained its fine form from its debut, dominating Cignal in three sets, 25-16, 25-13, 25-19, to score its second-straight win in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the PCV Socio-Civic Cultural Center here, Monday evening.

After two lopsided sets, Cignal managed to keep the third set close, trailing just two, 7-9, after the first technical timeout.

But from there, Chery Tiggo ran off to the sunset with Arriane Layug and Jaja Santiago sparking a 13-3 run for a 22-10 advantage.

Rachel Daquis and Janine Marciano pulled Cignal to within four points after a 9-1 blast, 19-23. However, it was already too late as Elaine Kasilag delivered two consecutive hits to seal the 25-19 win.

“First of all, we just want to thank God that we’re still healthy and strong despite the adjustments that we have to do,” said Chery Tiggo head coach Aaron Velez.

“Second, definitely we still have to work on a lot of things.”

Layug and Santiago topscored Chery Tiggo with 15 points each while Dindin Santiago-Manabat chipped in seven markers as the Crossovers took a solo lead at the top with a 2-0 record.

Mylene Paat added five points, nine excellent digs, and three excellent receptions.

“We played quite sluggish but still, I’m happy that the players were able to execute what they’re expected to execute,” he added.

Chery Tiggo opened the game waxing hot, dominating Cignal through a 25-16 outing to take a 1-0 lead heading to the second set.

The Crossovers pounded even harder in the ensuing frame, taking a 25-13 win to move a set away from their second sweep of the conference.
