Bea De Leon making up for lost time with Choco Mucho

BACARRA, ILOCOS NORTE — Back in the 2019 Premier Volleyball League season, Bea De Leon was hampered by a nagging shin injury which she suffered during Ateneo’s UAAP Season 81 title run.

This caused the 5-foot-11 middle blocker to miss a few games for Choco Mucho.

So, heading into the 2022 bubble season, De Leon made sure to work on her conditioning with extra effort.

And it definitely showed as she steered Choco Mucho to a 2-0 start in the league’s maiden professional conference.

“During the pandemic, I really just wanted to maintain my condition especially my strength kasi I came from an injury,” said the 24-year-old De Leon after Choco Mucho’s sweep of Sta. Lucia.

“So yun lang talaga yung tinry kong i-nurse. I just wanted to be healthy and do what’s right kasi wala naman akong hinahabol sa ngayon except be better for my team and do what’s right talaga.”

The Flying Titans wasted no time in dispatching the Lady Realtors on Friday, putting on a 25-17, 25-22, 25-20 show for their second victory in as many outings here at PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center.

De Leon, who is now fit and ready to lead Choco Mucho’s campaign, finished with seven points founded on three attacks, two blocks, and two aces.

The former Ateneo middle blocker previously posted 18 points in the Flying Titans’ four-set conquest of the PLDT Power Hitters last Wednesday.

Despite the rousing start, De Leon believes that there is still a lot of areas for the young Choco Mucho squad to improve on.

Moreover, she hopes that the Flying Titans can sustain this streak and keep doing better in the games to come.

“I think we’re okay, but there’s a lot to improve and work on.

“I think this is definitely better than our first game so at least yung trend kahit two games pa lang is paakyat kami. Hopefully, we sustain it and keep going and keep doing better lang,” she said.
