Perlas Spikers scores PVL breakthrough, stuns Cignal

BACARRA, ILOCOS NORTE — Perlas finally got their breakthrough win in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference after turning back Cignal, 20-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-21, on Thursday at the PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center here.

Heather Guino-o nailed a hit to put Perlas at match-point, 24-19, but Janine Marciano and Ranya Musa fired right back to keep Cignal at bay.

A miscommunication on the HD Spikers’ side sealed the 25-21 win for Perlas.

“Sobrang laki kasi yung opportunity nabigyan namin ng hustisya. Tapos ang isa pa naming kailangan kasi yung kumpiyansa so yung panalo malaking kumpiyansa ang mabibigay individually,” said Perlas head coach Rei Diaz.

“Sobrang salamat!”

The Perlas Spikers now have a 1-2 standing.

Nicole Tiamzon, Chery Nunag, and Guino-o finished with 13 points each in the emotional victory.

Sue Roces added 11 points while Perlas playmaker Gel Cayuna notched 24 excellent sets and nine markers.

Jellie Tempiatura also had a remarkable game on the defensive end, picking up 33 excellent digs and 19 excellent digs.

Cignal took the first set through a 25-20 win before Perlas took a 25-20 set of their own in the second frame to knot the scores at 1-all.

Perlas then grabbed a tight 25-22 win in the third set to put up a 2-1 advantage.

Janine Marciano once again led Cignal with 12 points while Norielle Ipac and Roselyn Doria added 11 and 10 markers, respectively.

This is the HD Spikers’ fifth loss in six games.

Perlas will take on Chery Tiggo tomorrow, Friday at 4:00 PM, while Cignal will make its return next week.
