Chery Tiggo stops another PVL powerhouse in Petro Gazz

BACARRA, ILOCOS NORTE — Coming off a huge win against Creamlime, Chery Tiggo continued its dominant display this time against Petro Gazz, 25-18, 25-20, 25-22, for its fifth win in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference here at the PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center, Sunday afternoon.

The Crossovers snapped the Angels’ three-game winning streak en route to a 5-2 card — good for the third spot in the standings.

Down by one, Maika Ortiz tied the game at 20 before Mylene Paat and Jaja Santiago gave Chery Tiggo a two-point cushion, 21-20, in the third set.

A double contact violation on Jasmine Nabor sliced the lead to just one. Then Remy Palma committed a service error, which restored the Crossovers advantage to two, 23-21.

Santiago placed Chery Tiggo at match-point, before ending the match with a powerful kill.

“First of all glory to God, it’s really up to Him. We have some challenges along the way, but we were able to still work on them. I’m just glad and happy for the ladies that they were able to lead the team and deliver,” said Chery Tiggo head coach Aaron Velez.

Santiago top-scored once again for the Crossovers with 20 points on 16 attacks, three blocks, and an ace. Her sister, Dindin Santiago-Manabat, added 12 points in the win.

Mylene Paat chipped in nine markers and 12 excellent digs. On the other hand, Jasmine Nabor dished out 22 excellent sets and scored five points.

“There’s still more games and more opportunity. We just have to master and be more consistent on the system,” he added.
