PVL Open Conference compressed until next week due to Ilocos Norte request

Choco Mucho and Chery Tiggo will face a tall order in the coming days.

The Premier Volleyball League was forced to revise its schedule due to the rising COVID-19 cases.

The development was confirmed by commissioner Tonyboy Liao on Wednesday.

“Governor (Matthew) Manotoc was being asked why the PVL in Bacarra was not under MECQ while the whole of Ilocos Norte is declared. So he requested Ricky (Palou) if we can finish right away so wala ng problem,” explained Liao.

Starting tomorrow, the league will hold games every day up until the finals.

Triple-headers will comprise the final three days of this week prior to the semifinals on Sunday.

This means that the Crossovers and the Flying Titans — who face face each other on Saturday — will be forced to play back-to-back matches if ever they make the playoffs.

If both final four series end on Monday, the finals will immediately begin on Tuesday — meaning there will be no time for rest and practices for the advancing teams.

Just like in the previous seasons, if the battle for the gold medal ends in two games, the battle for third will be decided via FIVB rules.

As of posting time, Choco Mucho is leading the pack with an immaculate 6-0 record.

Defending champion Creamline is currently in second place with a 6-1 record. Meanwhile, Chery Tiggo (5-2) and Petro Gazz (5-2) are level for third.

Still vying for a spot in the semis are Sta. Lucia (5-3) at the fifth spot and Black Mamba-Army (2-4) at sixth.
