Chery Tiggo sweeps Choco Mucho in prelude to PVL semis showdown

BACARRA, ILOCOS NORTE — Chery Tiggo left no stones unturned, claiming the second spot after sweeping Choco Mucho, 25-20, 25-9, 25-22 in the prelude of the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference semifinals at the PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center on Saturday

Down by two, Mylene Paat and Rachel Austero kick-started a 5-1 blast to put the Crossovers ahead by two, 22-20.

Kim Gequilla sliced the lead to one with a kill, but Paat answered right back to restore the lead to three.

An attack error from Marian Buitre pulled the Flying Titans to one, but a drop from Gyzelle Sy placed Chery Tiggo at match-point.

Joy Dacoron ended the match with a running attack.

Paat led all scorers with 11 points, 11 excellent digs, and seven excellent receptions while Jaja Santiago added 11 markers in the win.

Jasmine Nabor finished with 17 excellent sets for Chery Tiggo.

The Crossovers and the Flying Titans ended the elimination round with identical 7-2 cards, but Chery Tiggo had the upper hand due to the head-to-head match-up.

“Of course happy ako na umabot kami ng top four, yun naman yung first goal namin. Yung second goal sa semis, it’s going to be a different ball game,” said Chery Tiggo head coach Aaron Velez.

Caitlyn Viray led the Rebisco-backed squad with 10 points while Kat Tolentino only had six.

Regine Arocha, who suffered from cramps yesterday against Petro Gazz, sat out the match.

Chery Tiggo will battle Choco Mucho tomorrow, Sunday while the top-ranked Creamline will go up against the fourth-seeded Petro Gazz.
