Madayag scheduled to have surgery next week

BACARRA, ILOCOS NORTE — Maddie Madayag is set to undergo surgery after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) last Wednesday.

In a statement posted on Saturday, Choco Mucho revealed the extend of Madayag’s injury.

“With regret, the Choco Mucho Flying Titans team announces that its team captain Maddie Madayag was diagnosed with a complete ACL tear on her left knee which she sustained in Game One of the PVL Battle for Third last August 11, 2021,” the statement opened.

“She was immediately brought to Mariano Marcos Hospital where she underwent MRI and our medical team assessed the extent of her injury. Initial treatment was also given. She is scheduled to undergo a surgical procedure next week. Management will ensure the best care of Maddie,” the statement continued.

The 23-year-old suffered the injury during the Flying Titans’ Game One battle for bronze bout against Petro Gazz. She landed on her left foot after a quick attempt before instantly falling to the ground in pain.

Choco Mucho eventually lost the match and the series.

“Let’s keep Maddie’s quick and full recovery in our thoughts and prayers,” the statement ended.

Madayag, who suited up for the Philippines in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, was immediately brought to Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Batac for MRI.

Back in 2016, Madayag already suffered an ACL tear on her right knee which caused her to miss the rest of UAAP Season 78.

Due to the compressed PVL schedule, the Flying Titans have played a total of eight matches in the eight days.
