Three fighters ONE Championship should sign

There’s no shortage of brilliant martial artists in ONE Championship, as it has produced some of the world’s best fighters over the last decade.

And new world-class fighters are always joining the organization.

While the roster of ONE can stand alone given the talent in each sport and weight class, these three athletes who are signed elsewhere could certainly come in and make some of the most interesting matches in the organization.

Rose Namajunas (UFC Women’s Strawweight World Champion)

Match to make: Rose Namajunas vs “Unstoppable” Angela Lee at women’s atomweight

The ONE Women’s Atomweight division has grown leaps and bounds since its inception a few years back, as it is now one of the deepest and most talented divisions in the promotion from top to bottom.

It’s so deep that ONE can now afford to hold the historic ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix, which will determine the next challenger to Lee’s throne.

But while Lee is waiting for the winner, why not make a World Champion vs World Champion match between her and Namajunas?

A Namajunas versus Lee bout would certainly pique a lot of interest, considering the clash of styles with “Thug Rose’s” exemplary striking to Lee’s high-level grappling.

Aside from Lee, there are still a lot of big matches for Namajunas in the organization, from established stars like Seo “Arale Chan” Hee Ham to rising contenders like Denice “Lycan Queen” Zamboanga.

Zhang Weili (Former UFC Women’s Strawweight World Champion)

Match to make: Zhang Weili vs Meng Bo at women’s atomweight

If Rose Namajunas makes the jump, then Zhang Weili should follow suit.

Not only will she be getting another shot at Namajunas in a different rule set but she could also settle an old score in the promotion.

Aside from Namajunas, the only blemish in Zhang’s career is against #2 ranked atomweight Meng Bo.

The pair of Chinese stars faced off in 2013, when they were both making their respective debuts. Bo emerged victorious after three rounds, taking a unanimous decision win over Zhang.

Both athletes would go on different paths and succeed, and it is only fitting to have them face off once more – eight years after starting their careers against each other.

Gegard Mousasi (Bellator Middleweight Champion)

Match to make: Gegard Mousasi vs Aung La N Sang at middleweight

Gegard Mousasi isn’t foreign to Asia. In fact, before becoming a staple in the UFC and in Bellator, Mousasi made a name for himself competing in PRIDE and DREAM as one of the most exciting athletes, where he won the Dream Light Heavyweight Title.

A return to Asia with The Home Of Martial Arts pretty much makes sense.

Mousasi signing with ONE would tow a dream match between him and former two-division World Champion Aung La “The Burmese Python” N Sang a step closer to reality, and it’s a tussle that has the makings of “fight of the year.”

Aung La N Sang returned to form as he obliterated Leandro “Wolf” Ataides in his return, and given Mousasi’s excellence on the feet, a super fight between him and the Myanmar icon could bring the house down.

In the meantime, ONE Championship returns to action with the previously recorded ONE: BATTLEGROUND III on August 27.
