Jimmy Alapag is full of immense gratitude after being named an assistant coach by the Stockton Kings of the NBA G League.
The Filipino hoops legend took to Instagram Tuesday to thank the Sacramento Kings’ developmental league affiliate for the opportunity, which has definitely brought him closer to his ultimate dream of coaching in the NBA.
“Words can’t express how thankful I am for this opportunity to join the Stockton Kings for the upcoming NBA G League season,” he wrote.
Alapag is among those who completed the staff of head coach Bobby Jackson, whom he worked with in the recent Las Vegas Summer League that saw them lead Sacramento to the title at the Boston Celtics’ expense.
The 43-year-old thanked former Sixth Man of the Year Jackson in particular, as well as the ball club’s director of basketball operations Paul Johnson.
“Special thanks to Coach Bobby Jackson and Paul Johnson for believing in me and giving me this chance,” he wrote.
Alapag, who had previously served as an assistant for the Kings in the 2019 Summer League, comes in with the experiences he gained as a deputy for San Miguel Beer in the PBA and as chief mentor of Alab Pilipinas in the ABL.
Now, the former Gilas Pilipinas team captain can’t wait to buckle down to work with the ball club — and connect with the city of Stockton.
“Looking forward to connecting with the entire Stockton community,” Alapag wrote.
