AVC Club: Santiago-Manabat’s spark proves late as Chonburi sweeps Rebisco

Supreme Chonburi flexed its muscles and downed the error-plagued Rebisco, 25-11, 25-16, 25-16, in the 2021 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship, Saturday night at Terminal 21 Hall in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

Team captain Pleumjit Thinkaow led the Thais with 12 points, while Wipawee Srithong and Waranya Srilaoong got 11 points apiece.

But the bigger concern for the Filipinas was their errors. They gave up a whopping 27 free points to Supreme Chonburi.

Dindin Santiago-Manabat, who was just cleared earlier, was the spark Rebisco needed in the third set making five points to finish with six. Unfortunately, though, her showing was not enough.

The Filipinas failed to sustain their 5-1 start in the third as Supreme Chonburi clawed back and took the lead at 9-8, never giving the advantage back to Rebisco.

Up 16-13, Srithong, Thinkaow, and Srilaoong connived for six straight points to pull away in the third salvo.

Ahead by just a solitary point, the Thais broke the second frame wide open with a 10-2 blast to move on the verge of a sweep, 25-16.

Supreme Chonburi started the match strong, cruising to a 7-1 lead en route to a 25-11 blowout first canto.
