Henry Galinato to join UP after finishing one more course in Mesa

One-and-done prospect Henry Galinato has officially committed to the University of the Philippines.

But the Filipino-American will still have to accomplish one more subject in Benedictine Mesa so that he can get his undergraduate degree and take a master’s program in UP.

“We are just trying to make sure that all the documents are turned in and that he is ready to register by December,” said Fil-Am Nation founder Cris Gopez. “He is just finishing one more class right now.”

Fighting Maroons head coach of basketball operations Bo Perasol, along with team boosters Jonvic Remulla and Pato Gregorio, were able to see Galinato, Ethan Galang, and Jacob Bayla during a workout organized by the group last weekend.

Galinato officially committed to UP early Thursday morning.

“He’s excited to play for the University of the Philippines to bring home a championship,” Gopez said.

Prior to his commitment to UP, Galinato played for Benedictine University Mesa – a school that competes in NAIA.

Galinato spent his first two years of college in Bakersfield.

Galinato, 24, stands at 6-foot-6 and weighs 245 pounds. Despite his bruising frame, Galinato can finish at the low post.

He spent his junior and senior year with Benedictine University Mesa. Galinato averaged 13.0 points and 9.6 rebounds in his final year, earning him back-to-back All-Cal Pac honors.
