V.League: FC Tokyo absorbs JTEKT sweep as Espejo score nine


Tokyo absorbed their third straight loss after falling to JTEKT in straight sets, 17-25, 19-25, 19-25, Saturday in the 2021-22 Japan V.League Division 1 men’s tournament at the Panasonic Arena in Osaka.

Filipino import Marck Espejo topscored for FC Tokyo with nine points founded on seven attacks, a block, and a service ace.

Brazilian import Felipe Fonteles dominated for the Stings with 19 points built on 16 attacks, two blocks, and an ace. He was also lights-out, going 16-of-20 in his attacks, good for a whopping 80 percent.

Yuto Fujinaka and Taiki Fuchuyama combined for 15 points as JTEKT hiked its record to 2-1.

As a squad, the Stings were hyper-efficient in the spiking department. They went 40-of-62, a high 64.5 percent, while FC Tokyo only managed 36.6 percent.

Jonas Kvalen backstopped Espejo with eight points while Tetsuya Muto got six.

FC Tokyo is one of two teams yet to notch a win in the tournament alongside VC Nagano at 0-3.

Espejo and his team aim for payback when they play the Stings anew tomorrow, 3:00 PM, at the same venue.
