Espejo checked by Nagoya as Tokyo’s V.League slump continues

FC Tokyo’s slump continued after a 24-26, 23-25, 25-23, 21-25 loss to Nagoya, Sunday in the 2021-22 Japan V.League Division 1 women’s tournament at Toyoda Gosei Memorial Gymnasium Entryo.

Filipino import Marck Espejo saw himself checked anew, limited to just six points in 22 attempts. Luck has yet to smile on his squad in six outings, tied with VC Nagano for rock bottom.

On the other hand, Bartosz Kurek was the same beast for the Wolfdogs with 29 points on 28-of-51 spikes.

FC Tokyo showed signs of life in the third set, hacking out a 25-23 win, but they could not sustain that effort come the fourth.

Ryota Denda patrolled the net for Nagoya with six blocks to go with his seven attacks to finish with 13 points. Kenta Takanashi got 10 points of his own.

Norwegian import Jonas Kvalen led FC Tokyo with 19 points, while Hideyuki Kuriyama added 13 points, all from attacks.

Espejo and FC Tokyo will travel on Friday to Showa Denko Dome in Oita to face Bagunas and his Weisse Adler. The match at 6:00 PM (Manila time) will be the first V.League encounter between the two Filipino imports.
