PBA Govs’ Cup to fire off on Dec 8

The 2021-22 PBA Governors’ Cup will kick off on December 8.

The league officially announced a date on Monday after the season-ending conference suffered some delays. These were mainly due to visa-related problems that affected the arrival of imports, especially those from the States.

But soon, the roster of reinforcements will be complete, led by returning players such as Justin Brownlee of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, KJ McDaniels of NLEX, Rain or Shine’s Henry Walker, and Mike Harris of Magnolia.

Other returning imports are Olu Ashaolu of Alaska, Brandon Brown of San Miguel Beer, and Paul Harris of Phoenix Super LPG.

Tony Bishop of Meralco, Jaylen Bond of Blackwater, Terrafirma’s Antonio Hester, TNT’s McKenzie Moore, and NorthPort’s Cameron Forte complete the cast.

The league, though, has yet to issue a schedule for the tilt. It did say, however, that the first two matches will take place at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

Fans, however, aren’t allowed entry yet. Commissioner Willie Marcial will sit down with the local government units (LGUs) of where the league will hold its games. He hopes to get approval for their plans to bring spectators back.

“Kasalukuyan tayong nakikipag-usap mga LGUs at tayo ay umasa na mapagbibigyan ang ating kahilingan na pahintulutang makapasok at makapanood ang ating mga fans ng laro,” he told PBA.ph.

The SMART Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City; the MOA Arena in Pasay City; the Ynares Center in Antipolo; and the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan under consideration as venues for the Governors’ Cup.
