Prince Caperal inks two-year extension with Ginebra

Prince Caperal will remain with the Barangay.

The sweet-shooting big man signed a fresh two-year extension with Ginebra San Miguel, his agent Marvin Espiritu told Tiebreaker Times.

With this, negotiations between both parties are now complete. Talks initially stalled when the PBA paused all its activities due to the ongoing pandemic.

Caperal undeniably deserves the new contract with the way he has emerged as a key cog for the Gin Kings in the past couple of years.

The 28-year-old has actually been with the ball club since 2018, but it wasn’t until 2020 when he would receive the biggest break of his career.

He received more responsibilities when Greg Slaughter surprisingly took a sabbatical. Still, the Arellano product didn’t shy away from the chance.

Caperal posted career averages of 7.8 points on 42-percent shooting from deep and 3.9 rebounds as he helped Ginebra rule the 2020 Philippine Cup.

It was the Gin Kings’ first all-Filipino title in 13 years.

The 6-foot-7 center’s rise didn’t go unnoticed as he went on to bag Most Improved Player honors by the end of the extraordinary season.

Caperal is the first member of the 2014 class to remain with his team.

Phoenix’s Chris Banchero went to Meralco, while Terrafirma’s Matt Ganuelas-Rosser signed with TNT. Meralco’s Nard Pinto was locked by Ginebra, and Alaska’s Rodney Brondial beefed up San Miguel.
