Bagunas fires 15, not enough to lift Oita back to V.League win column

Error-prone Oita Miyoshi reeled to its fourth consecutive defeat, succumbing to Toray in straight sets, 23-25, 21-25, 22-25, in the 2021-22 V.League Division 1 men’s tournament, Saturday at the Mishima City Gymnasium.

Bryan Bagunas, despite the loss, still went for 15 points on 12 attacks and three blocks. He was also a perfect 5-of-5 from the back row.

Hungarian import Krisztián Pádár led the Arrows with 15 points while Shoma Tomita had 10.

Aiding to Toray’s benefit were Weisse Adler’s set-worth of errors with 27.

The Arrows returned to the win column after back-to-back losses against defending champion Suntory to raise their record to 17-8 for the second seed.

Venezuelan reinforcement Emerson Rodriguez led Oita Miyoshi with 23 points on 20 attacks, two service errors, and a block.

Shodai Abe also chipped in eight points scattered through four spikes, two blocks, and two aces.

The Weisse Adler sank to 5-20 for ninth place.

Bagunas and his Oita Miyoshi look to end their four-game misery tomorrow in a rematch against Toray at 11 am (Manila time).
