Brandon Bates leaves La Salle, re-signs with NBL1’s Sutherland


Brandon Bates will not be part of De La Salle University when the UAAP Season 84 men’s basketball tournament rolls around next month.

The 6-foot-9 Fil-Aussie has decided to finish his studies at University of Sydney.

Moreover, the 24-year-old has re-upped with NBL1 East team Sutherland.

Bates had been playing with the Sharks since 2020 but only played one game last season, tallying seven points and seven rebounds against Penrith.

In his two-year stay with the Green Archers, Bates played 22 games.

He averaged 2.7 points and 5.5 rebounds in his rookie season back in UAAP Season 81. Also gone from La Salle is Jordan Bartlett. The Filipino-American floor general, who transferred from National University after Season 80, averaged 3.09 points and 1.18 rebounds in his only year with the Green Archers.
