V.League: Hiroshima spoils return of Bagunas, Oita

After cancelling their last three games due to COVID-19 protocols, Bryan Bagunas and his Oita Miyoshi returned on Saturday but failed to change the narrative.

The Weisse Adler absorbed their seventh-straight loss, bowing to Hiroshima, 19-25, 22-25, 11-25, in the 2021-22 V.League Division 1 men’s tournament at the Zip Arena Okayama.

Bagunas tallied 11 points on 10 attacks and a service ace. He also went 5-of-8 in his backrow spikes.

Six-foot-eleven tower Thomas Edgar led JT Thunders to a 13-16 record for seventh seed, making 19 points built on 13 attacks, three blocks, and three aces.

Yudai Arai owned the net with five blocks to go with eight hits to finish with 13 points in the win, while Sakashita Junya added 10 points of his own.

Venezuelan Oita import Emerson Rodriguez topscored with 13 points but the locals did not show up.

The next highest pointer for Weisse Adler was Kyogo Kawaguchi with just four points as they fell to 5-23 at ninth seed.

Oita Miyoshi looks to end its skid tomorrow when it faces JT Thunders anew at 12 pm at the same venue.
