AU Volleyball: Kalei Mau ends Week 1 at 32nd place

Kalei Mau finished 32nd in the 44-player pool after Week 1 of the Athletes Unlimited Volleyball Season 2.

Mau’s Team Cruz experienced a deja vu, winning two sets but still losing overall, 69-71 (19-25, 25-23, 25-23), Sunday at the Fair Park Coliseum in Dallas, Texas.

The Fil-Hawaiian spiker tallied 11 kills and an ace to go with 14 excellent receptions and a successful set in just two frames played.

Mau collected 133 total points scattered through 80 win points and 53 stat points to end with 338 points after the first week of action.

Pushing Team De la Cruz to victory was its huge first set, cruising to a 25-19 win. Mau did not play in this frame.

Team Cruz nabbed the next two periods but by just the minimum, taking identical 25-23 wins, with Mau and Nootsara Tomkom capping the game with back-to-back hits with the setup from each other.

Bethania De la Cruz led her squad with 228 points due to her six kills, 24 excellent receptions, and 13 digs. She also booked another captain role next week, placing second after Week 1 with 800 points.

Erin Fairs gained the most in the match despite playing for Team Cruz, netting nine attacks, 33 excellent receptions, and 15 digs for 254 points.

The next gameday will be on Thursday with De la Cruz, Natalia Valentin-Anderson, Dani Drews, and Lauren Stivrins as the captains who will draft the players in their respective teams.
