UAAP welcomes fans back starting April 5

After a long wait, the UAAP can welcome fans back into its games.

In an announcement this afternoon, officials from the league shared that the UAAP Season 84 Men’s Basketball Tournament will allow supporters to watch their favorite teams and players compete starting April 5, 2022.

“We accelerated the opening to a live audience with Alert Level 1 continuing in Metro Manila,” said UAAP Season 84 president Emmanuel Calanog.

“Our priority is the health and safety of our student-athletes and minimizing the risks of COVID-19. After discussions with our health officers and putting a few additional protocols in place, we are now ready to have fans back in the arena. The UAAP is a competition best experienced with students and alumni supporting their respective schools.”

Only fully vaccinated individuals can watch the games live, and fans must wear their masks at all times. There will also be specific zones where spectators can eat.

“While tournament officials, players, and staff are still in a bubble, having fans back in the stands is a significant step back to normalcy for the UAAP,” said Executive Director Atty. Rene “Rebo” Saguisag.

“We appreciate the sacrifices of individuals and the member schools in keeping their respective bubbles intact which has led us to this point of having fans back in the stands.”

Opening the game day at 10:00 AM is a clash between University of Santo Tomas and host De La Salle University.

At 1:00 PM, University of the Philippines squares off against Adamson University. Then comes the Battle of the East clash between Far Eastern University and University of the East takes place at 4:00 PM.
