Alyssa Valdez excited for chance to train in Brazil

After leading Creamline’s redemption campaign in the Premier Volleyball League, Alyssa Valdez is now setting her sights on the Philippine Women’s National Volleyball Team’s upcoming training camp in Brazil.

The women’s team will fly to Brazil – the second-ranked country in the FIVB Senior World Ranking – on April 12 to gear up for the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam slated from May 12 to 23.

Valdez shared that she is very excited to learn from one of the best programs in the world. Moreover, she’s thankful to have the opportunity to learn under National team consultant Jorge Souza de Brito.

“In all fairness, it’s my first time to train outside Asia for the National Team so I’m very, very excited,” said Valdez after leading the Cool Smashers to its first professional title on Friday night. “As a player, you wanna learn more from different cultures, different systems also.

“I’m just so thankful na I’m gonna be under and be mentored by one of the best also in Coach Jorge,” added the conference’s Finals MVP.

Valdez missed the team’s initial build-up which saw the pool participate in the Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship last October after being excluded from the list.

She was then added to the 20-man pool for the SEA Games before eventually making it to the final lineup.

Joining Valdez are Jaja Santiago, Mylene Paat, Aby Marano, Majoy Baron, Ces Molina, Kath Arado, Dawn Macandili, Dell Palomata, Ria Maneses, Jema Galanza, Iris Tolenada, Kyla Atienza, and Kat Tolentino.
