Limitless out to win second straight PBA 3×3 crown

Limitless will look to maintain its PBA 3×3 kingship as the Second Conference Grand Finals takes place on Wednesday at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.

The league’s reigning champions are headed into the Last Dance as the no. 1 seed, big thanks to the 450 tour points they amassed after six legs — a pair of which they conquered to hike their title collection to four all in all.

Set to represent Gilas 3×3 in the 31st Southeast Asian Games, the Appmasters are among the four teams automatically seeded in the quarterfinals.

The Phoenix Petroleum-owned franchise is joined by Leg 1 champions TNT, fourth leg rulers Meralco, and Leg 6 kings San Miguel Beer.

Those four will only have to wait for their opponents in the playoffs’ first round, although being in such a position could be a double-edged sword considering what happened to the Bolts in the First Conference’s grand finale.

Back then, the MVP-owned ball club came in as the no. 1 team, only to be upended by an inspired Terrafirma through a 19-15 decision.

Six teams will vie for the last four quarters spots through a single round, six-game pool play to be held prior to the knockout stages.

Pool A consists of no. 5 seed Pioneer Pro Tibay, the eighth-ranked Purefoods Tender Juicy, and no. 9 team Sista Super Sealers.

On the other hand, Pool B is made up of the sixth-seeded Barangay Ginebra, the no. 7 Platinum Karaoke, and 10th-placer Terrafirma.

Pioneer and Sista will raise the curtains of the hostilities at 9 a.m,, followed by a meeting between the Gin Kings and the Dyip at 9:25.

The top team in Pool A will take on Meralco in the quarterfinals, while the second-best in the group will lock horns with Limitless.

Pool B’s top dog, meanwhile, will figure in a showdown with the Beermen, as the no. 2 squad is set to battle the Tropang Giga.

Like in the maiden wars, the top purse is still P750,000. Runner-up will take home P250,000, while the third-placer will have P100,000.
