DLSU Lady Spikers bring back old tradition to spark change

After suffering a loss to league-leader National University to open the second round, De La Salle University made sure to go back to an old tradition prior to its match-up against Far Eastern University on Saturday night to try and keep things steady.

The Lady Spikers showed up at the SM Mall of Asia Arena sporting their short hairstyles all set for their clash against the Lady Tamaraws.

It’s a tradition started by Lady Spikers head coach Ramil de Jesus since taking the helm 25 years ago.

Save for a slight hiccup in the first set that saw them crawl back from a seven-point deficit, La Salle’s new look indeed sparked something inside the Lady Spikers as they dealt FEU a 25-13, 25-13, 25-14 loss.

“Yung nagpasimuno po talaga nito ay ‘yung mga seniors po namin,” revealed middle blocker Thea Gagate during the post-game press conference.UAAP-84-WVB-DLSU-vs.-FEU-Fifi-Sharma-7181-scaled DLSU Lady Spikers bring back old tradition to spark change DLSU News UAAP Volleyball - philippine sports news

“Nag new look po kami lahat and kasi gusto po namin ng change, and ‘yun buti naging maganda ‘yung resulta, and ‘yun nakilala ulit kami kung ano at sino ‘yung Lady Spikers,” added the Nazareth School of National University product.

Gagate was very much happy with her performance against the Lady Tamaraws as she believes that she was able to fulfill her role as a middle blocker.

The 6-foot-2 tower delivered a game-high 14 points highlighted by five blocks.

“Very happy with my performance today po, kasi naka-contribute ako sa blocking and ‘yun po ‘yung responsibility ko as a middle blocker so malaking tulong po ‘yun sa team namin sa buong game namin today.”

And they are hoping that the new look of the team leads to a blistering endgame run for the season.
