Pringle remains day-to-day for Ginebra, doing daily therapy

Stanley Pringle has been listed as day-to-day after being diagnosed with a grade 1 hamstring strain, the reason why he sat out Ginebra’s match versus a familiar foe in NLEX in PBA Philippine Cup action, Wednesday night.

The former BPC sustained the said injury during their Manila Clasico affair with Magnolia last Sunday, in which the Kings lost via 89-84 decision.

He was actually in uniform against the Road Warriors but did not see action, although his team managed to take care of business even without one of their stars as they came back from 19 down for the 83-75 victory.

“He’s doing daily therapy. It’s a hamstring, it’s a grade one [strain],” said head coach Tim Cone shortly after the match at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Such a finding should make Ginebra breathe a sigh of relief since he just had a meniscal repair months ago but it doesn’t make Cone any less worried as he is concerned about the recurrence of hamstring issues.

“The only problem with hamstrings is that it’s so common to re-strain them. You start to think it’s healthy, and then you go out and play, and then boom, it happens again, and it happens worse,” he explained.

“So that’s what we’re trying to prevent. We don’t want him to get back too early, and then re-strain it in a worse manner,” he added.

Thus, the extra care that the Barangay is taking with Pringle and all the other veterans like Japeth Aguilar, who’s been managing his calf.

“So, we’re being careful with it, like we always do with all our veterans. We try to be careful with our veterans on our team. The rookies we just kick them and say, get back out there. But the veterans, we’re a little bit nicer too,” Cone said.

The 24-time champion mentor said that they prefer to have Pringle back once he’s at 100 percent, meaning that he may still not be able to return when the KIngs take on San Miguel Beer in a titanic clash on Friday.

“We’re gonna make sure he’s at 100-percent before he gets back on the floor. Unless he responds really well to treatment tomorrow, I think he’ll be out, probably, for San Miguel. Maybe back by the Converge game next week.”
