SOURCES: Converge releases Jeff Cariaso as head coach

After just one conference, Converge has decided to part ways with its head coach Jeffrey Cariaso.

According to multiple sources closely monitoring the situation, the management of the FiberXers has informed Cariaso of his release on Monday.

“I would like to personally thank Coach Jeff for the competitive spirit that he has instilled in our players,” said Converge owner Dennis Anthony Uy. “His experience as a player with an illustrious career undoubtedly inspired our young team to reach the playoff stage in our very first conference at the PBA.

“He is a well-balanced coach with many successful years ahead of him. I am grateful to him for his contribution in transitioning this new franchise.”

Cariaso was one of the carryovers from Alaska when Converge bought out the franchise back on March 23.

In his only conference with the FiberXers, the 49-year-old steered Converge to a 5-6 record, good for seventh seed in the playoffs.

Converge lost to TNT in the quarterfinals, 116-95.

“Jeff did a great job for Converge. He is a fine coach and a true gentleman. His significant insights and qualitative understanding of the game will serve him well in his next assignment,” expressed team manager Chito Salud.

“Our organization is grateful for Jeff’s role in bringing stability to the team, especially during the transition phase. We wish him luck and the best of basketball in the coming years.”

Prior to handling Converge, Cariaso had been a coach for Alaska since 2015. He became the Aces’ chief tactician in 2019 after replacing Alex Compton.
