2022 AVC Cup for Women

Tots Carlos relishes facing Asia’s top hitters

The Philippine Women’s National Volleyball Team will be gunning for fifth place in the 2022 PNVF AVC Cup for Women tomorrow against Chinese Taipei.

But whatever the result may be, be it fifth or sixth place, it would be the country’s best finish in the seven editions of the continental meet.

The Philippines only joined in 2018. Then in its only appearance, the squad managed to reach ninth place.

But beyond the milestone, the country represented by PVL champion Creamline is just thankful to fight for the flag and learn from Asia’s best.

“We’re grateful that we’re here and alam mo naman kami, doon pa rin kami sa lining eh so we try to absorb yung mga kailangan namin matutunan,” said Tots Carlos after the Nationals’ five-set win over Australia on Sunday at the PhilSports Arena.

“As athletes din marami kaming natututunan, nakikita namin ‘yung sistema ng ibang teams,” added the PVL back-to-back MVP, who had showdowns with China’s Wu Mengjie, Thailand’s Chatchu-on Moksri, and Vietnam’s Tran Thi Thanh Thuy.

Carlos was at the forefront of the Philippines attack against the Volleyroos with 26 points on 25 attacks and a block.

And for the University of the Philippines alum, the team is performing its best every single time due to the fans that troop to the venue rain or shine.

“Like what we always say we’re just really happy to be here, representing the flag and we hope na we’re making all the Filipinos proud,” she expressed.

“Sa lahat ng sumusuporta po sa amin, maraming maraming salamat po. Dama po namin kayo.”
