Frankie Lim tapped as next NLEX head coach

After seven years, Frankie Lim is back in the big league.

Lim has closed a deal to become NLEX’s next head coach, inking the deal on Tuesday evening.

Multiple sources closely monitoring the situation confirmed the development to Tiebreaker Times.

Lim, 62, had always been the prime choice of the MVP Group to take over the post left by Yeng Guiao.

The six-time PBA champion as a player got the nod from none other than chairman Manny V. Pangilinan last week in a meeting that also had PBA chairman Ricky Vargas and NLEX president Rod Franco in attendance, a source from the NLEX camp added.

Lim previously coached Ginebra back in the 2014-15 Governors’ Cup, tallying a 5-6 record in the elims before bowing to Alaska in the quarterfinals.

This also marks Lim’s return to the group after 11 years.

Lim was the architect of San Beda’s dynasty back in the late 2000s, winning four crowns in the NCAA.

After a seven year absence, he went to University of Perpetual Help DALTA, coaching the team from NCAA Seasons 94 to 95.

Lim was also one of the candidates for the San Beda post.

The veteran tactician looks to steer NLEX to the Finals, something his predecessor Guiao was not able to do in his six years with the Road Warriors.

Lim and NLEX will open their Commissioner’s Cup campaign on Friday against Guiao and Rain or Shine.
