Alyssa Valdez knows road to ‘Grand Slam’ will be tough

Alyssa Valdez and Creamline feel highly motivated heading into the 2022 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference.

After all, they just need one more championship to complete a historic grand slam after dominating both the Open and Invitational Conferences earlier in the year.

“Expectations, siyempre… Honestly, at the back of our heads while in training, that is the goal,” said team captain Alyssa Valdez, who was actually part of the two PLDT squads that helped Roger Gorayeb complete his personal grand slam back in the 12th season of the Shakey’s V-League in 2015.

Valdez, though, is well aware that the road to their third consecutive title is no cakewalk.

“Hindi mo naman in a snap you can just go there. We have to work harder, and work smarter. Grand Slam will always be there but that’s the motivation,” said Valdez.

“Nagti-training din lahat ng mga teams and their goal is to win. Hopefully, kami rin nandoon ang drive namin to win also this coming conference.”

Creamline is definitely heading into the season-ending conference as the favorites with Open and Invitational Conference MVP Tots Carlos, Jia De Guzman, Jema Galanza, Ced Domingo, Kyla Atienza, Valdez, and Turkish reinforcement Yeliz Basa leading the way.

Aside from the fact that they won the first two championships of the 2022 PVL season, the Cool Smashers were also able to represent the Philippines in the Asian Women’s Volleyball Cup and the ASEAN Grand Prix which definitely boosts their chances in the import-flavored tourney.
