Topex Robinson forever grateful to Phoenix for chance to coach in PBA

Topex Robinson has made the gamble of a lifetime.

Phoenix Super LPG announced on Thursday that the youthful head coach opted not to renew with the team after his contract expired last December 31.

Robinson, 48, spent the last five years with the Fuel Masters – the last two years as the team’s head coach.

The now-former Fuel Masters head coach remains grateful to Phoenix for giving him the opportunity to coach in the big league.

“I’m forever grateful to Boss Dennis (Uy), Boss RTZ (Raymond Zorilla), and Boss Bugs (Paolo Bugia) for helping me in achieving my dream of coaching in the PBA. It’s every coach’s dream to coach in the PBA,” expressed Robinson, who replaced Louie Alas as head coach back in September 2020.

“Thank you to Phoenix, to all the players who we were able to handle, and to all the coaches who helped me in this journey. I’m blessed to have worked with all of you.”

Robinson compiled a 17-16 regular season record and a 3-4 card in the playoffs for Phoenix.

His best conference was back in the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup, steering Phoenix to the semis before bowing to TNT in an epic five-game series.

Taking over Robinson’s post is his lead assistant Jamike Jarin, who will serve the team on an interim basis.

“I’m super glad that Phoenix is taking a chance on Coach Jamike just like how they took a chance on me,” said Robinson. “It also helps that Coach Jamike will give continuity to what we started.

“I only wish nothing but the best to my friend and the coaching staff and I’m confident that they can reach the goals that we were not able to achieve during my stay there.”

Now, uncertainty looms for Robinson.
