PBA reverts to 5 gamedays a week for Govs’ Cup

The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is opening the season-ending Governors’ Cup on Sunday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.

Meralco and Rain or Shine will kick off the hostilities at 4:30 PM. Meanwhile, Converge will battle NorthPort at 6:45 PM.

The double-header offering will mark the beginning of what will be yet another busy conference.

Similar to the 2022 Philippine Cup, the upcoming tilt will feature five game days a week. The league compressed its schedule again to give way to Gilas Pilipinas’ preparations for the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in May.

And like in the past, teams coming off deep playoff runs in the tourney prior will debut later in the elimination round, with Commissioner’s Cup champs Ginebra opening their campaign on February 5 against the Elasto Painters.

The Barangay is just days removed from ruling the mid-season wars by beating guest team Bay Area in Game 7 at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.

Next month, the Kings will begin their title defense bid as they are also the reigning titlists of the Governors’ Cup.

Based on the schedule released by the league Tuesday, the eliminations will conclude on March 17 at the Philsports Arena.

Given that, the conference could end either by late April or early May. The SEA Games are scheduled for May 5-17 in Phnom Penh.

The second game of each PBA gameday is live-streamed on SMART Sports.
