Ayo brings back ABC camp in Sorsogon

Despite his busy schedule with Converge, Aldin Ayo has brought back his basketball camp for aspirants in Sorsogon.

The Ayo Basketball Clinic I.D.E.A.S. camp, which was founded in 2009, will return after three-year hiatus and will open on Sunday, February 12 at ACI Gymnasium.

Overwhelming will be the attendance for the camp’s return as over 200 participants from the region as expected to arrive.

If the AIC Gym reaches capacity, Ayo will open the indoor court of his house to the aspirants as well.

“Overwhelming and happy,” said ABC IDEAS founder Aldin Ayo about the expected turnout.

“Of course, we are also excited since we haven’t done this since the pandemic. We all know that I started here from the grassroots and this is my way of giving back to the sport that has taken good care of not just me and gave me a good career,” continued the NCAA, UAAP, and FIBA 3×3 champion coach.

The ABC IDEAS camp this year will be held every weekend and will span 12 sessions.

There the kids will learn the basics of the game, concepts that they will need to carry in their basketball careers, and the values they need to exhume in everyday life.

Special instructors for opening day are Converge big man and Bicol native Justin Arana, do-it-all guard Alec Stockton, and renowned skills coach Joph Cleopas.

“Siyempre, exciting kasi dito kami nag simula sa camps na ganito,” said Arana. “Ngayon, kami naman yung magtuturo. Kumbaga, parang full circle ito para sa amin.”

Some of the products of the program are Kobe Monje of Letran and Zenric Jarque of College of Saint Benilde.

And Ayo can’t wait to help hone the next generation of Sorsogon ballers who will find their way into the country’s top colleges.

“That’s our goal which is to develop these kids into fine players and gentlemen. And hopefully, through basketball, they can find their way to the UAAP or the NCAA.”
