UP CHK addresses WVT needs, concerns

The University of the Philippines’ College of Human Kinetics has acknowledged the concerns of its women’s volleyball team regarding their complaints and needs.

Last Wednesday, a letter sent by 21 members of the team to Chancellor Fidel Nemenzo was sent to members of the press. The letter stated “mismanagement” issues the team had to endure over the last three years.

The CHK, headed by Dean Kiko Diaz, immediately addressed their concern by giving them a dialogue with Nemenzo.

“We have met with the Chancellor on these concerns and have had a dialogue with the parties concerned,” read the statement of the CHK.

“We are now continually addressing their specific requests and have secured the support and commitment of team sponsors who will continue to provide us with funding and other team necessities that will enable our athletes to prepare well for the competition.”

The team expressed their desire to excel in their sport and give their best for the school.

The coaches and management staff of the team are also committed to achieving success and bringing honor to the university this season. The college thanked the nowheretogobutUP Foundation and other alumni support groups who have been providing the athletes with the best training and game day needs, and beyond.

“We thank our allies, the nowheretogobutUP Foundation, and the other alumni support groups who have responded to the call since many years back and gone out of their way to provide our athletes with the very best for their training and game day needs, and beyond. We will continue to work with them as we move forward in our common goal of achieving success,” the statement continued.

For its part, the CHK and the UP Varsity Sports Office reaffirmed their commitment to support all of the school’s varsity teams.

“In the same breath, we — the UP Varsity Sports Office and staff and the College of Human Kinetics — remain steadfast in our commitment to lifting our varsity teams to the attainment of their true potential. It takes a village to raise a team, nurture it to full strength and competitiveness.”
