MPL PH: Bren continues to roll, sweeps Blacklist

Bren Esports picked up where they left off, sweeping Blacklist International, 2-0, to clinch its fifth consecutive victory in the MPL Philippines Season 11, Friday at the Shooting Gallery Studios in Makati City.

The M2 world champion improved its win-loss standing to 5-1 while the reigning MPL Philippines titlist slipped to 3-3.

Coming off a comeback win in Game 2, head coach Francis “Duckey” Glindro cites the team’s work ethic for their resilient display in the series.

“Work ethic. Yun lang. I think that’s the best way to describe how the team functions right now, how they play,” he said.

“Sa kanila kasi yung mga games tulad nito, ‘The game’s not over til it’s over.’ Kita naman siya sa scrims namin. They always try yung best nila every time.”

In Game 1, Bren quickly established a 9-1 kill lead late in the 7th-minute courtesy of the early game exploits of Kyle “Pheww” Arcangel (Julian) who was at a 4-0-4 KDA at that point.

Rowgien Stimpson “Owgwen” Unigo (Lolita) took the opening match MVP with a perfect 0-0-10 KDA while Pheww complemented with a 5-0-4 KDA.

It looked like a rubber match was on the way when Blacklist took control of Game 2 from the get-go and successfully took down all inhibitor turrets by the 14th minute without conceding any.

But after Stephen “Super Marco” Requitano (Wanwan) nabbed a triple kill during a 15th-minute skirmish that helped Bren force a 3-1 trade-off and secure the lord.

Pheww (Valentina) then executed a clutch Noumenon Blast to catch two Blacklist members in the backline that touched off a 5-1 wipeout to complete the sweep.
