Terrence Romeo hopes to find form by playoffs

San Miguel welcomed back an asset in the resumption of its PBA Governors’ Cup campaign without the injured June Mar Fajardo.

The Beermen finally had Terrence Romeo back in the fold after being sidelined for about three months due to a grade 2 hamstring strain, seeing action in their 120-106 victory over NLEX on Wednesday night.

“Masaya na nakabalik ako,” the three-time scoring champion told reporters moments after the match at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.

Turning 31 on Thursday, Romeo played his first game back since Game 4 of the 2023 Commissioner’s Cup semis last December 21, where SMB saw the end of its reign after bowing to eventual runners-up Bay Area, 94-92.

Injuries have been an issue for the flamboyant guard this season. It could be remembered that he only played a total of seven games in the midseason tilt after being out for eight months reportedly due to a back injury.

But all that is in the past now, and the two-time champion only has his sights set on regaining his old form entering the playoffs.

And he should definitely be a big boost to a San Miguel side that will have to fight through the tournament without the league’s only six-time MVP, who is out for six to eight weeks after sustaining an MCL injury.

“Parang ‘yung mind ko, ‘pag gusto kong may gawin ako na explosive, parang ‘yung mind ko, pinipigilan ako na gawin. Inaalis ko pa siya sa mind ko,” he said.

“Parang three days pa lang ako na sumasabay sa scrimmages namin. ‘Di pa talaga ako nakakatapos na full court na practice kasi ‘yung scrimmages namin, more on plays plays na lang eh, kasi pa-playoffs na kami,” the FEU product added.

“Pero trying pa rin ako na pagdating ng playoffs … unti-unti, hanggang sa makundisyon ulit.”

The second game of each PBA gameday is live-streamed on SMART Sports.
