Jolas says Kelly Williams defiant despite injury: ‘He wants to play’

ANTIPOLO – Kelly Williams isn’t done for the season.

TNT head coach Jojo Lastimosa said that the 41-year-old is still keen on coming back soon after being feared to have suffered a season-ending injury in their PBA Governors’ Cup quarterfinal win over last Wednesday.

“We’re not counting him out,” he said.

“He wants to play.”

Lastimosa disclosed that possibility moments after the Tropang Giga dealt sister team Meralco a brutal 110-80 beatdown to own Game 1 of their besr-of-5 semifinal affair, Friday night at the Ynares Center here.

Williams was, in fact, with the team, albeit in street clothes.

For the uninitiated, the former league MVP was said to have pulled a calf against the Fuel Masters, going down in pain with only 33 seconds left in the opening period. He would never check back into the match.

Lastimosa, shortly after that game, offered that the 17-year veteran could be out for the season given the severity of his injury, although that has changed since following the update given by no less than the cage legend.

The ball club, though, has yet to disclose the full extent of his injury.

And to be determined, still, is Williams’ return to the lineup.

“Let’s see where we go from here,” said Lastimosa, who’s also serving as the Tropang Giga’s team manager. “We still don’t know. It’s just the first game. We have a long way to go.”

Game 2 of the semis is on Sunday in the same venue.

The second game of each PBA gameday is live-streamed on SMART Sports.
