SEA Games: Men’s Volley Team gets swept by Singapore

The Philippine men’s national volleyball team concluded its 32nd Southeast Asian Games group stage campaign without a win after losing to Singapore, 23-25, 21-25, 18-25, at the Indoor Main Hall of the Olympic Complex in Cambodia.

In the opener, Zi Hao Teddy Teo converted a searing cross-court hit to give Singapore a 24-21 advantage.

The Filipinos tried to mount a comeback as Jau Umandal answered right back with a down-the-line attack. Jayvee Sumagaysay then blocked Muhammad Aniq Aiman Bin Shaugi to save another point for the Philippines.

However, Jordan Wong scored one from the back to give Singapore a 1-0 lead.

The Filipinos managed to stay close in the second set and even took a 21-20 advantage after Steve Rotter pierced through two blockers. However, the Philippines failed to keep their composure in the end. It committed crucial errors that powered a 5-0 Singapore run that ended the second frame.

Singapore pulled away in the third frame after Wong scored an ace that put them ahead, 19-13. The Singaporeans never looked back from there as they secured a 3-0 win to end their Group A campaign on a high note.

The Filipinos failed to win a set throughout the tournament. They have lost to defending champion Indonesia, host Cambodia, and Singapore in straight sets.

The Philippines will enter the classification round where they will face Malaysia.
