Meralco swaps Mac Belo for Rain or Shine’s Norbert Torres

It may just be what Mac Belo needs.

The 30-year-old has earned another shot to prove his worth after a straight-up swap from Meralco to Rain or Shine in exchange for Norbert Torres.

The PBA approved the deal on Thursday.

And it should bode well for Belo, who spent much of his time riding the bench in over two years with the MVP Group-owned ball club.

Blackwater shipped the former FEU star to the Bolts back in February of 2021. However, he saw his minutes dip beginning the 2021-22 Governors’ Cup.

In five conferences, he only saw action for a total of 42 games. He sat out the previous Governors’ Cup as he took a leave of absence.

Now he has a new lease on life with RoS, which is now in the early stage of its rebuilding phase under returning mentor Yeng Guiao.

Torres, meanwhile, will now be playing for his fifth team in the league after spending the last five years with the Elasto Painters.

A former Gilas Cadet like Belo, the La Salle product averaged 6.6 points on 50-percent shooting and 1.7 rebounds in nine games in the last Governors’ Cup.

The 33-year-old big man is set to join a Bolts squad that recently named Luigi Trillo as its new head coach, with Norman Black as consultant.
