Kai Sotto set for Hiroshima return after Summer League stint

Kai Sotto’s path has been paved.

The 7-foot-3 Filipino will be coming back to the B.League next season, re-signing with Hiroshima for the 2023-24 B.League season.

Sotto will have a special clause in his contract.

If he gets signed by an NBA team after the Summer League in July, the Dragonflies will let him go.

“So if he signs with an NBA team this summer, there is a possibility that his contract with Hiroshima will be canceled,” said Dragonflies general manager Shuji Okazaki.

Grateful is the 21-year-old for the opportunity given to him by Hiroshima saying, “I am so grateful to the club for giving me this opportunity and I am happy to have the chance to play in Japan next season.

“The NBA is my biggest dream, so this summer I plan to go to the United States for training and the Summer League. I will continue to challenge myself.”

After a three-year stint with Adelaide in NBL-Australia, Sotto signed with Hiroshima last February.

Sotto averaged 9.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks in 21 games played.

Hiroshima, though, was eliminated by Chiba in the quarterfinals.

“To all the Dragonflies fans, there may be some irregularities in the next season, but I will do my best in the given environment so that I can give you good news.”

Also re-signed by the Dragonflies are imports Kerry Blackshear Jr., Nick Mayo, and Dwayne Evans II.

Locals coming back are Ryo Terashima, Shogo Asayama, Isaiah Murphy, Seiya Funyu, Toshiki Kamizawa, and Takuto Nakamura.
