Oliver Almadro comes back home to Letran


Colegio de San Juan de Letran will have a proud son handling its women’s volleyball team starting this NCAA Season 99.

Decorated head coach Oliver Almadro has been tapped by the school to handle the Lady Knights on Friday evening.

He replaces long-time head coach Mike Inoferio

Fr. Vic Calvo, OP bared the development to Tiebreaker Times.

“I am happy to have one of the top minds in Philippine volleyball handling the Letran volleyball program, with a primary focus on women’s volleyball,” said Fr. Calvo, OP.

“His affiliation with Letran makes him a perfect fit for the institution.”

Almadro studied in Letran from 1995 to 1998.

His biggest break came when he became the head coach of Ateneo de Manila University’s men’s volleyball team, steering the Blue Eagles to three-straight UAAP crowns from UAAP Seasons 77 to 79.

In May 2018, Almadro was tasked to handle the women’s volleyball team of Ateneo, guiding the team to the UAAP Season 81 title.

He was released by Ateneo after UAAP Season 85.

The concurrent Petro Gazz head coach will have the tall task of ending Letran’s 12-year Final Four drought in the NCAA.

The Lady Knights last won the NCAA crown back in 1999 while last making it to the semifinal round in NCAA Season 87, finsihing third during that year.

Last season, Letran finished in fifth place with a 5-4 record — just a full game behind semifinalists Lyceum and Mapua.
