Rondina, Madayag lift Choco Mucho to VTV Cup bronze

Choco Mucho secured a bronze finish by defeating Japan’s Kansai University in four sets, with scores of 25-20, 23-25, 25-13, and 25-18, in the third-place match of the 2023 VTV Cup held at Lao Cai Gymnasium last Saturday.

Just a set away from claiming a spot on the podium, the Flying Titans showcased exceptional performance in the fourth set, propelling them to a victory against the Japanese collegiate team.

With a slim lead of 20-19, Choco Mucho shifted into high gear, intensifying their defensive efforts and delivering powerful attacks to quell the upset-seeking Kansai University.

Notably, Choco Mucho had previously defeated Kansai University in the tournament’s opening match.

Caitlyn Viray initiated the pivotal game-ending rally with a forceful cross-court hit, marking the Flying Titans’ first-ever podium finish in their franchise history. Sisi Rondina followed with a resounding attack from an improvised play.

Then Kansai University’s attack error extended Choco Mucho’s lead to 23-18.

Cherry Nunag contributed with a successful kill block, followed by Isa Molde’s emphatic ace. The loss effectively concludes Kansai University’s campaign.

Adding to the triumph, Maddie Madayag and Rondina were recognized as the Best Middle Blockers and Best Outside Spikers, respectively, of the tournament.
