Spikers Turf: Mark Coguimbal shines, tows Adamson to sweep of Coast Guard

Davies Paint-Adamson dominated the Philippine Coast Guard, winning 25-19, 25-22, 25-14 to seize an early lead in Pool C of the Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference at the Paco Arena in Manila on Sunday night.

The Soaring Falcons established a strong 7-2 lead, which grew to a 10-point advantage at 22-12 after consecutive points from Francis Casas and Marc Paulino. This secured their victory over the Lifesavers and propelled them to a 1-0 record in the group.

“So far, so good because I told them that we need to start the first game well so that we can build our confidence and chemistry,” said Adamson head coach George Pascua.

Mark Coguimbal was a towering presence, contributing seven significant blocks and seven successful attacks to lead the Soaring Falcons with a game-high 14 points.

Casas added 11 points through nine successful attacks and two blocks, while Paulino contributed nine points to the win.

Lourenz Domingo orchestrated the offense with 16 excellent sets and two points, while Lorence Canlas provided eight excellent receptions and three digs during an hour and 23 minutes of play.

“Their experience (hopefully) will be built up because this is our toughest pre-game. Hopefully, we can gain confidence and strengthen our chemistry because they are still quite young,” said Pascua.

Adamson is set to face Sta. Rosa on November 5 at 3:00 p.m.

On the other hand, no player from the Coast Guard reached double digits in scoring, with Aidam Adam and Lerry Francisco each contributing eight points. Bobby Gatdula, on the other hand, was limited to just six points in the loss.
