Northport engages in talks with Robert Bolick for potential PBA return

NorthPort is actively in talks with Robert Bolick’s camp regarding his possible PBA comeback following an abrupt end to his B.League stint.

Head coach Bonnie Tan said that both sides are now exploring possibilities that could lead to the star guard suiting up for the Batang Pier once more.

Bolick returned to the country just recently to be with his pregnant wife.

“We are currently, actively in talks with Bolick’s camp and his agent to explore ‘yung possibility of his return to our team, and sa PBA,” the seasoned mentor said during the league’s Media Day at One Esplanade in Pasay, Tuesday.

Reportedly due to the delicate pregnancy of his wife, Bolick asked to be released by Division II team Fukushima from his two-year contract. The Firebonds would grant his request and announced the development late last week.

Bolick only played one regular season game with Fukushima. Against Yamagata last October 7, he finished with 10 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Tan admitted that he and NorthPort felt surprised by the 25-year-old’s decision as they believed that he’d stay there for a while.

“Of course, we were shocked kasi nga, we’re all anticipating a year or two ‘yung contract niya roon,” he said. “Yes, we were surprised.”

What’s no longer new to the team, though, is the interest of Bolick to come back.

“When he was in Japan pa naman, andun na ‘yung communication namin. ‘Yung interest na babalik nga siya because of personal reasons, andun na,” Tan said.

“Hindi na bago for our team. Naguusap naman kami since … after birthday din niya nagusap din kami,” the three-time NCAA champion coach added.

But it’s not lost on the Batang Pier the other possible outcomes of their ongoing discussions, since Bolick could also have options besides the PBA.

“Anything’s possible,” said Tan. “Nag-uusap naman both camps. Let’s wait and see whatever the outcome ng talks. Kasi may options din siya to play sa ibang country, but sa PBA I heard na priority niya.”
