Hard work pays off for UAAP POW Kevin Quiambao

Sporting an all-around performance in the past week, Kevin Quiambao has been the biggest factor in De La Salle University’s current winning streak.

Quiambao achieved the league’s first triple-double since 2018 as La Salle secured three consecutive victories.

In recognition of his outstanding efforts, Quiambao was honored by the Collegiate Press Corps as the UAAP Men’s Player of the Week for the period of October 22-29.

The versatile forward, Quiambao, unleashed 17 points, 11 rebounds, a league-record 14 assists, and four steals in a crucial 88-78 win against the NU Bulldogs. He followed this up with a performance of 22 points, 12 boards, six assists, and five steals in a 100-69 thrashing of UST.

La Salle’s coaching staff was hardly surprised by the MVP frontrunner’s display, crediting it to the trust he has with his teammates and the trust his teammates have for him. Assistant coach Gian Nazario told the press, “The trust that he has with his teammates and the trust that his teammates have for him, you can’t measure it because during practice, we see him, and we’re not surprised that it’s happening during the game. The credit really goes to him because of the work he puts in.”

Quiambao averaged a triple-double in the twin victories, recording eye-popping numbers of 19.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 10 assists, and 4.5 steals per contest, making him the unanimous choice by print and online scribes.

He narrowly edged out teammate Jonnel Policarpio, FEU’s L-Jay Gonzales, and UP’s Gerry Abadiano for the weekly honors, which were presented by San Miguel Corporation and supported by minor sponsors Discovery Suites and Jockey.
