Dr. Zosimo Battad remains as UAAP Season 86 Chairman

The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) has officially announced that Dr. Zosimo M. Battad will continue in his role as the Chairman for Season 86, solidifying his dedication to steering the UAAP toward even greater success.

Dr. Battad had initially ‘verbally resigned’ on November 15 ahead of the University of the East-Ateneo de Manila University game in the Men’s Basketball Tournament.

He has now decided to rescind the resignation. His primary motivation is to ensure the smooth continuation of the hosting year by the University of the East.

Addressing the media, Dr. Battad stated, “This season has been marked by grace and goodwill, and I genuinely believe that, in the spirit of sportsmanship, we can achieve remarkable feats together.”

The Chairman’s decision was influenced by reflecting on the impact of his choices on the UAAP and its member institutions. Following that, he emphasized a renewed focus on shared goals.

“After much reflection, reason prevailed over emotion. With a clear focus on our shared goals, I am confident that we can overcome challenges and continue to elevate the standards of amateur sports in the country.”

Dr. Battad cited his commitment to prioritizing the well-being of student-athletes and the promotion of fair play as pivotal factors in his reconsideration.

“Sportsmanship above all else is what matters. We are not just an association; we are a community that thrives on the principles of respect, integrity, and camaraderie.”

He called upon the UAAP and its Board of Trustees to collaborate in this initiative, demonstrating their dedication to upholding the core principles of the league.

“In our pursuit of excellence, it is essential that we continually assess and refine our processes. My request to revisit the rules and regulations of the league is not just about the technicalities but about ensuring that our guiding principles align with the ever-evolving landscape of amateur sports. I’m glad that the entire Board will be with me in this,” Dr. Battad stated.
