June Mar Fajardo shrugs off wrist injury: ‘Malayo sa bituka’

June Mar Fajardo hopes that he suffered nothing serious after hurting his left wrist during San Miguel’s eventual win over Rain or Shine in PBA Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup action on Wednesday night.

The league’s reigning seven-time MVP was in a bit of a rush leaving the SMART Araneta Coliseum moments after their 115-110 victory as he immediately headed to the hospital to check the condition of the injured part.

“Hindi naman siguro major,” he told reporters. “Aksidente lang.”

Fajardo got hurt at the 9:48-mark of the third quarter shortly after contesting the layup attempt of opposing rookie Adrian Nocum.

He was visibly in pain along the baseline and was attended to by a physician, but still opted to play through it until he asked the coaching staff to sub him out, heading back to the bench with 8:03 to go of the same period.

The Cebuano star was not brought back into the game until the 10:26-mark of the final frame, with his left hand taped up.

Fajardo, though, left the Big Dome without any of that wrap and shrugged off the injury, although he hopes, still, that it won’t be much of a concern.

“Wala, malayo sa bituka,” said the 34-year-old, who finished with 16 points and seven rebounds in their third straight win of the conference to go 4-1.

San Miguel won’t play until December 8 versus NorthPort and Fajardo hopes that it would be enough time for him to rest and recover from the injury.

Ditto with the Beermen concerning the others such as Terrence Romeo (knee), Jeron Teng (hamstring), Vic Manuel (knee), and Kyt Jimenez (orbital fracture).
