M5: AP.Bren opens world title bid with rout of Burmese Ghouls

AP.Bren shrugged off a tight Game 2 early-game encounter to pull off a 2-0 sweep of Burmese Ghouls, opening their M5 World Championship campaign on Saturday at the EVM Convention Center in Quezon City.

The Hornets reasserted their mastery over the Burmese side, whom they defeated 4-3 during the M2 World Championship grand finals in Singapore.

“I think they were just nervous, especially in Game 1. You could see that in Game 2, they stepped up a lot,” said AP.Bren skipper Angelo “Pheww” Arcangel, commenting on their edge against their Burmese rivals.

Roamer Rowgien “Owgwen” Unigo echoed his sentiments and expects Burmese Ghouls to bounce back as the group stage progresses.

“Maybe they haven’t adjusted yet to playing on the stage. So perhaps, in a couple of days, they will be able to adapt to the M5 stage,” he said.

The reigning MPL PH champions delivered a dominant opening salvo, led by Pheww (Novaria), who went spotless with a 3-0-6 KDA in the 13-minute victory. AP.Bren dominated the kill tally with a massive 13-4 lead.

Game 2 boiled down to a 25th-minute lord dance where Michael “KyleTzy” Sayson (Nolan) secured the lord objective and scored a double kill that sparked a 4-3 exchange.

With the lord marching on their side, the Filipino team wasted no time mounting a game-winning base turret push to complete the sweep.

Burmese Ghouls will look to bounce back on December 3 against Team Flash, while AP.Bren will aim to continue their winning streak against the same Singaporean squad on Wednesday, December 6.
